I like messing around with software especially Open Source Software. So I've decided to list some my favourite projects.
First up is Jabber I've actually like four (two servers and two clients) programs but for good reason as you will see. First on my list is Wildfire (server)and Spark (client), Wildfire (aka Jive Messenger when I first started using it) in the fist server I ever tried using, its a great piece of software and the feature
score (97%) on jabber.org is well deserved. Through Spark and Spark
Manager into the mix and you have a very well rounded enterprise jabber network ready to go.
On the other hand if enterprise IM isn't your thing there is ejabberd and Psi, both are multi platform and feature rich. Ejabberd is highly scalable and nodes can be added on the fly so no angry users because the server had to be restarted or any other problem caused when clustering servers. Now for my favourite Program... Psi I have all but abandoned the other IM's (Thanks to the IM transports, Obsidian (Warren) and JabberAfrica) some of the top features in my book is the GPG encryption and the ability to add separate icons to transports so you always know which network you are using (Not that you would want to use other networks if you are using jabber).
Now if you looked at Obsidian, JabberAfrica, ejabberd and SourceWave they all have one thing in common which brings me to my next program Durpal its a grate system and can be adapted to any site if you put in a bit of effort. Some other programs to make my list is SugarCRM and vtiger even if your are a one man business either one of these programs can help you.
Last but not least Darcs, a revision control system, its an amazing little program. While I like Subversion a lot its not always the best tool for the job. Anyway back to Darcs, it's very easy to use and there are many ways to get your charges out there to the world and doesn't take a lot to get going which is good if you don't have your own server.
Well there you have it well not actually because there are a whole bunch I haven't listed. But I'm only one person with one opinion I would like to hear your best software list. So leave your comments.
